Chromed steel coatrack ‘Coat Tree’ by Sidse Werner for Fritz Hansen

The iconic Coat Tree, designed by Danish designer Sidse Werner for Fritz Hansen in 1971, is a sculptural and highly functional piece of Scandinavian design.

Constructed from eight bent chromed-steel tubes, each finished with rounded black molded-plastic knobs, its branching form provides ample space for coats, hats, scarves, and other garments. Despite its elegant and lightweight appearance, the Coat Tree is remarkably practical and is reported to hold up to 48 coats.

With its playful tree-like silhouette and polished chrome finish, the Coat Tree became a distinctive design of the 1970s and remains a timeless Fritz Hansen classic.

Sidse Werner was a Danish cabinetmaker, weaver, industrial designer, and architect whose work spanned furniture, textiles, carpets, glass, lighting, and decorative objects.
